The service recognises quality training centres in the UK and abroad with an MNTB kitemark. Awardees can use this kitemark to demonstrate the fact they have met MNTB’s strict review criteria and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

The centre recognition service aims to improve seafarer training standards through its rigorous process, which includes recognising where good practice exists and identifying how those who would seek to achieve good practice can be supported in revising their standards.

The management team of CTS formally received the centre's MNTB recognition at the UK Chamber of Shipping’s annual Summer Lunch on 20th June.

Commenting on the award, Gareth Mathias CTS General Manager said: “It is without doubt a great achievement to gain this recognition from the MNTB, and is a credit to the state of the art facility we have created, and the professional staff who operate it on a daily basis.

“Adherence to the scheme ensures that our already high standard of training is maintained for all of our delegates, and keep us aligned to what is expected not just by the MNTB, but also the UK Chamber of Shipping, Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and beyond’

The new centre recognition service is being operated by the MNTB with the full involvement and approval of the UK Chamber of Shipping.

The Chamber’s Executive Board has the final authority to award recognition based on the evaluative process carried out, overseen and verified by the MNTB’s Recognition Services Review Committee.

The MNTB is an independent body supported by all aspects of the industry, including employers; unions, education centres, training providers and the MCA.

The MNTB has a national and international reputation for assuring quality cadet training programmes supported by training record books and course criteria for the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

Its existing course recognition service has been available to maritime colleges and training providers in the UK, Ireland and the Philippines for the past couple of years.
